Blue Horsehair sell Vase | Raku Vase

This beautiful vase was handmade of Stoneware clay on a potter's wheel. When bone dry, blue terra sigillata was applied and it was burnished to a high luster. It was then bisque sell fired. This piece was not glazed. In the firing process, this extremely hot vase was removed from the kiln and horse hair stands and feathers were gently placed on the piece when the piece reached the correct temperature. The hair and feathers disintegrate, leaving the carbon marks behind on the piece. When the piece was cool, it was cleaned and a beeswax applied for a protective sheen.
