Vent Grate or Radiator Grate, Large Rectangular Cast Iron Architectural sell Salvage

Look at the detail on this fantastic old metal radiator or vent cover. Made of solid metal, this grate has developed a lovely patina. The metal is in good condition, with no repairs and no welds. Much of the paint is flaking, and there is a wonderful array of paint colors and paint history, and there is superficial rust. I like how the panel looks a lot like Spanish architecture, with stylized scrolls, and it's almost gothic. This is probably from the 1880 to 1920 period. The knob that operates the four louvers is missing, and the three remaining louvers would benefit from a good cleaning and lubrication. One louver is missing, and one of the remaining louvers has a missing corner, as you can see in photo # 5. There is a bit of mortar still attached at one end. Imagine this as a bathroom medicine cabinet door, or imagine this with a candle lit behind - wow! Make a shadow box and use this as a spooky Halloween prop. Or just mount this on a wall and admire the texture and contrasting details! It measures 11 3/4" by about 8 3/4" and about 1 7/8" deep. The back is slightly tapered, so if you intend to use it in a wall or floor you will need an opening about 10" sell by 7 1/16". It weighs a hefty 6 pounds.
